Strengthening Inclusive Justice Program
Background: This is a 3-year project which is being implemented in 13 municipalities of Nepal. It aims to promote and facilitate the effective participation of individuals affected by conflict/violence in a credible and victim-centered transitional justice process. The project also aims to strengthen the capacity of local civil society to document human rights violations, support locally-led advocacy, educational initiatives, memorialization, archiving, and truth-telling activities, and facilitate the empowerment of survivors, and their families through mentorship, entrepreneurship, and psychosocial support (PSS). Consequently, survivors will be anticipated to live a dignified life with recognition of their experiences, as well as be supported by initiatives that promote their psychosocial well-being and sustainable livelihood.
Objectives:
- To strengthen the capacity of local government and local civil society to sensitively document, archive, and preserve victims’ stories for truth, justice, reconciliation, and memorialization, especially victims from marginalized caste and ethnoreligious groups, women, youth, sexual and gender minorities, and people with disabilities.
- To strengthen locally-led advocacy and education initiatives to enhance local, provincial, and federal government accountability on reparation, and memorialization efforts and to promote learning from past conflict and encourage non-recurrence in the future.
- To empower conflict victims, survivors, and their families, especially those who have been marginalized based on caste or ethnoreligious background, gender, age, sexual orientation, or disability, so that they can effectively participate in safe transitional justice processes to reflect their individual and collective needs.
