Psychosocial and Mental Health Support Training
A six-day ‘Psychosocial and Mental Health Support Training’ was successfully conducted by TPO Nepal from 19th February to 24th February 2023 at Pokhara. A total of 13 nursing staff from 13 different health posts in Parbat and Kaski districts participated in the training. The training was facilitated by Mrs. Ambika Balami (Trainer at TPO Nepal) and Mrs. Sabitra Sharma (Clinical Supervisor/Trainer at TPO Nepal). Facilitators provided training on different topics such as mental health, communication skills, psychoeducation, psychological support, healthy activation program (HAP), and counseling skills using different methods such as lectures, discussion, role-play, videos, and group work. The training was conducted based on module-1 developed by the National Health Training Centre (NHTC) for non-prescribers (Nursing staff and ANM) on mental health and psychosocial support.
Objectives of the training:
- To increase the dignified treatment access to the person who has been experiencing mental health and psychosocial problems.
- To provide an understanding of mental and psychosocial well-being.
- To enhance the knowledge and skills of health workers to identify and provide mental health and psychosocial support through health facilities.
- To provide knowledge and skills to provide psycho-education to the person and their family members and stress management and self-care techniques.
