Nepal earthquake response programme
Nepal Earthquake Response Programme (NERP) was a short term emergency response project funded by Helpage International Nepal from 1 June 2015 to 30 November 2015. Its overall objective was to provide psychosocial and mental health support to the older people in severely earthquake affected districts in Nepal. It was implemented in Kathmandu, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk and Gorkha districts.
The key project activities included the training of counselors and CPSWs (Community Psychosocial Workers) in dealing with psychosocial and mental health issues of older people. This involved integrating topics of geriatric mental health in the training. Psychosocial support was also given to their family members. Cases that required further medical attention were provided referral care (treatment was done at a Kathmandu based hospital).
