Follow Up Meeting of Youth Advisory Group (YAG)
On 15th November 2019, a meeting was conducted among 7 of the members of Youth Advisory Group (YAG) to discuss on the activities and strategies to guide and sustain the YAB in further days at TPO office. The leader of YAG, Ms. Kreeti Pudasaini was asked to discuss within the group and bring an agenda for the meeting, they had a discussion over their Viber group and brought up one topic for discussion Media Violence and how this has hampered life of an adolescent, which could be something we could work on next.
According to them, media in actual is a broader term but they perceived media as : a) Social Media ( this probably includes Facebook, Instagrams, YouTube, Online Games etc), b) publications/ articles in newspaper, and c) different Television shows ( advertisements, live shows, films etc.) As per the discussion, the reached to a conclusion that although media has positive influence in different sectors, with growing modernization, media is outweighing negative influence, such as online bullying, news fake headlines.
The group suggested that the intervention should happen from early childhood period. For this, they emphasized on better focus during upbringing. YAG’s major concern was about parenting. They said that a proper parenting could assist in the reduction related to addiction of mobile and technology among adolescents as the habits should be shaped up from early childhood. Majority of adolescents spend their time in school and it is a must that they get a regular guidance from teachers and school’s personnel.
Therefore, they put their suggestion forward in the meeting saying that they could conduct different school based awareness/orientation programs on mental health and adolescent depression. .
- Next step from YAG (Planning)
- Explore possible schools in Kathmandu valley by themselves where they could go and conduct orientation or awareness program for class 8-10 grade students.
- Coordinate with the school principle for executing plan.
- Initially prepare draft presentation, later to be reviewed by project team before actual presentation.
YAB members will be divided in a team and will conduct programs in different schools by themselves but with the help of skilled human resources from TPO Nepal.
