Celebrating 13 years: A message from our Chairperson
It is my immense pleasure to write a few words on the auspicious occasion of TPO Nepal’s 13th anniversary of working in promotion of mental health and psychosocial well-being in Nepal.
I would like to extend my gratitude to all who have been continuously supporting our efforts and movements on mental health and psychosocial well-being.
As stated by WHO, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Our constitution has also emphasised health as a fundamental right and that all citizens shall have the rights to live their life in a dignified and respectful manner. However, psychosocial conditions and mental health is still under-resourced and under-prioritized. Nine out of 10 people with mental illness fail to receive any kind of treatment and have to live their lives facing various forms of stigma and discrimination.
I am proud to emphasize the roles and contributions of TPO Nepal in the mainstreaming of mental health and psychosocial services into health and protection systems based on scientific evidences and experiences from community practices. TPO Nepal’s active involvement in post-earthquake mental health response and engagement in policy level development has also proven our dedication in strengthening mental health and psychosocial services in Nepal.
Our collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population and subordinate authority, Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen and subordinate authority, Nepal Police, Women Commission has created an enabling environment and strengthened the capacity to improve mental health and psychosocial service delivery in the rural communities of Nepal. We, as a collaborating agency, will always structure and develop our program within the policy and provision of relevant ministries at different levels. We are committed to support Nepal government’s priority and provide technical support wherever the government requires them.
In this occasion, I would once again like to acknowledge the great efforts and dedication of our staff, general members, technical advisors and board members. I am also thankful to our line ministries, social welfare council, donor agencies, universities, and most importantly to all the community people who have cooperated and supported us in our journey towards a healthy society.
I look forward to your continued support and wish everyone all the best for the days to come. Thank you!
