Prem Nath Bhattarai is an accomplished psychologist with over a decade of expertise in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). He earned a Master’s degree in Psychology in 2012 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Counseling from Tribhuvan University, alongside a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and English. Prem’s strong academic background is complemented by extensive field experience in psychosocial counseling, crisis intervention, and program management.
Throughout his career, Prem has held diverse roles in prominent organizations such as TPO Nepal, HUMAN Nepal, KOPILA Nepal, and the Mental Hospital in Lagankhel. He is currently the Coordinator/Clinical Supervisor at TPO Nepal, where he leads socio-emotional learning programs and provides technical supervision for MHPSS interventions. Previously, as Head of the Psychosocial Well-being Department at KOPILA Nepal, he coordinated projects focused on peacebuilding and mental health during crisis situations. His consultancy roles with WHO and MSF demonstrated his expertise in addressing complex psychosocial needs in disaster-affected communities through counseling, training, and program design.
In addition to his professional achievements, Prem is a published researcher, contributing significantly to the understanding of psychosocial and environmental challenges faced by migrant workers, as well as the psychological impacts of migration. His notable publications include:
