NHTC Module-2 training for Primary Health Care Workers
Three batches of NHTC Module 2 training for health workers on mental health were conducted by TPO Nepal at Waling Municipality, Syangja district under the support of TPO Nepal and organization/coordination of the National Health Training Centre (NHTC) and Provincial health directorate, Gandaki province. The mental health training was conducted based on the NHTC Module 2.
The objective of this training was to train the Primary Health Care (PHC) workers on NHTC module 2. A total of 17 health workers participated in the first batch. Similarly, 23 health workers participated in the second batch, and 19 health workers participated in the third batch. A pre-test and post-test were conducted to ensure the effectiveness of the training. The sessions were interactive and ample opportunities were provided to the participants to learn, such as role-play, group activity, discussion, presentation, and quizzes. Each day, the training was concluded with a reflection meeting among the TPO staff and the trainers.
During the training, Mr. Arun Karki, Public Health Officer, Province Health Training Centre, Gandaki Province, highlighted the importance of module 2 training for peripheral level health workers and its significance in mental health task sharing. Similarly, Mr. Ramesh Adhikari, Director of the Health Training Center, requested the participants to learn well from the training so that they could apply that knowledge and skills in the community setting to overcome the burden of mental illness.
