Nepal Earthquake Response Programme (NERP) is a short term emergency response project funded by Helpage International Nepal. Its overall objective is to provide psychosocial and mental health support to the older people in severely affected districts in Nepal. It is being implemented in Kathmandu, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk and Gorkha.
The key project activities include the training of counselors and CPSWs(Community Psychosocial Workers) in dealing with psychosocial and mental health issues of older people. This involves integrating topics on geriatric mental health in these trainings. Psychosocial support is also given to their family members. Cases that require further medical attention are provided referral care(treatment is done in a Kathmandu based hospital).
